Melbourne, July 15. The revenue for the year amounts to £4,152,000, being the largest yet obtained and exceeding the Treasurer's estimate by £30,000. Tbe customs, publio works, and miscellaneous show a large increase, but the territorial a falling off, owing to Ihe Government having withheld the sale of land by auction. The Chief Secretary has suffered a relapse, aud is confioed to his bed. The Treasurer makes his financial statement on Tuesday nest. New writs have been issued for Grenville in the placa of Mr Pope deceased, and for Collingwood in the place of Mr Everard, insolvent. There will be a strong contest in each place. A Municipal conference is now sitting on tbe Local Government Bill introduced by the Government. A testimonial of sympathy has been presented to Ruperti Green, lately acquitted re the Queen-street explosion cases. The prospectus is issued of the Pakawau and Victorian Coal Company, for working a mine in Nelson, capital £30,000, in £i shares. A correspondent, writing to the Argus, states that the Rev. Robert Fleming, late of Otago, bas been refused recognition as a preacher, and tbat no reasons are assigned by the Home Mission. Three military funerals took place laat Sunday in Melbourne. The Assembly last night passed the Reform Bill through Committee, and agreed to tbe proposals of the Government prohibiting the joint Assembly from making alterations io money bill. Captain Duncan, of the barque Palace, from Rangaroa, reports seeing a light ashore at Sisters Island, Buss' Straits, and conjectures that it was made by castaways from some wrecked vessel. Mr Gaven Casey, a surgeon at Brighton, was yesterday committed by the coroner for twenty-four hours for contempt in giving evidence at an inquest. The Chief Secretary is slightly better this morning. The question of erecting a lighthouse at Cape Nelson or Cape Bridgewater is under the consideration of the Government. It is likely that the Suez mails will be delivered in New Zealand before the Californian again this month, as the Para is expected here on the 24th or 25th inst.
