PARLIAMENTARY.

Wellington, July 10. In the Honse of Representatives to* <lay, Messrs Luckie and Creighton were granted ten days leave of absence, and Messrs Montgomery and Rolleston a week each.

Mr Reynolds gave notice of his intention to move that tbe House go into Committee of Ways and Means on Tuesday, to consider the following proposals:— -That on the Ist of July, 1875, the duty on colonial distilled spirits should be 7s per gallon; after the Ist of Ju'v, 1876, 8s; and after the Ist of July, 1877, 9s. The Premier gave a polite refusal to state in reply to a question from Mr Wakefield what steps the Government had taken since last session to bring the murderers of Sullivan to justice. (?) In reply to Mr Stewart, Mr Yogel said tbat in the face of the official report of Captain Johnston he would not be justified in asking the House to sanction the erection of a lighthouse at Cape Wanbrow, Oamaru. '1 he Premier ssid that the Government were going to introduce a bill to remedy any defects in the "Native Laods Act, 1873." The Electric Telegraph Bill caused an interesting debate. Mr Yogel said that in all probability they wonld soon be able to send facsimile telegrams, so that the operators would not be obliged to learn the contents. The endeavor of the Government was to assimilate tbe Telegraph Department as much as possible to that of the Post-Office by making it a mere piece of mechanism. Mejor AtkiDsoh suggested tbat the operators should, after taking a message off, address it and place it at once in the Post-Office, 'Mr Gillies thought the measure was slightly touched with a panic for legislation. Tbo debate was adjourned, and the House then adjourned until Tuesday.
