San Fkancisco Mail. — The next mail will be due at Auckland tomorrow. Permanent Building Society.— The twelfth annual meeting of this society, which appears to be in a prosperous condition, was held last night, Mr D. Burns in the chair. Tbe report and balance-sheet, which appears, elsewhere, was read and adopted, and Messrs. Burn, Cooke, Fletcher, Younger, and Brighton were elected as Directors. Wanganui Races — -An opportunity will be offered to those who are desirous of witnessing the Wanganui races on Monday next by the steamer Wallace, which is laid on for au excursion trip for the occasion. She v?ill leave here on Saturday afternoon, and Wanganui on tbe return trip on Monday night. Resident Magistrate's Court.— William Barlow and John Young were this morning charged with assaulting Thomas Benfield. The case against Young was dismissed, but Barlow was bound over to keep the peace for a month in his own recognizance of £20.
