His Honor Mr Justice Richmond returned to Neleoo from the Coast by the Kennedy on Saturday. Supreme Cour_.— lt will be seen by advertisement that the sittings of the Supreme Court will be adjourned for a week, in consequence of his HoGor Mr Justice Richmond having to proceed to Taranaki by the Phoebe to-morrow evening. The Bishop of Nelson. — A private telegram has been received from Bishop Suter saying that he arrived in Melbourne by the mail steamer, and proposed sailing for Nelson, via the West Coast, in the Tararuo, on the 14th inst. Radical Reform League. —The adjourned meeting of the League will be held this evening, commenciog at half-past seven Masonic Hall. — Mr Chapman and Miss Ida Bonifon will give their farewell performance at the above Hall this evening, when many novelties of an interesting and startling charncter will be introduced. Masonic Funeral. — The funeral of Mr- John Tregea took place yesterday with Masonic honors. The members of the fraternity mustered in considerable strength, and at half-past two the procession started, headed by the Artillery Band playing the "Dead March in Saul. ' In addition to the Masons a very large number of the friends of the deceased followed his remains to the Cemetery, where the Church of England service was read by the Rev G. H, Johnstone, after which W.M. C. L. Maclean read the impressive Masonic formula appointed to be used on Buch occasions. The deceased, who lor a long time past has been suffering from disease of the lungs was very generally respected, as was shown by the large number of persons who attended his funeral. Telegraphic communication with the West Coast is once more opened after having been interrupted for eight days. Population of the Province. — Of all the provinces of New Zealand, Nelson alone seems to have been standing still in the matter of population during the last three years, the numbers, according to the last census, being : — Males, 13,540; Females, 8981. Total, 22,521. The total in 1871 was 22,501. The principal falling off, we understand, has been in the Grey Valley, where a very considerable decrease is shown The details of the census we shall publish as soon as they are obtainable.
