BOARD OF WORKS.
At a meeting of the Bta-d last night, there were present Messrs Percy (chairman), Fell, Dodson, Burns, Thompson, and Jennings. The minutes of the last meeting were lead and confirmed. On the application of Mr Anftice, leave was granted him to pave with bricks the foctpath in front of his shop in Hardy-street. A memorial was pre eoted from the men employed by the Boir.l, asking that their wages might be raised from £2 to £2 5s per week. It was resolved that they te paid £2 2a per week, it being considered that they (having no lost time during wot weather) were really receiving rather above average wagea. Mr Dodsok remarked upon the evldeuce taken at tho inquest on the Bridge-street fire, that ono policeman after midnight was not sufficient to guard the cily He thought it would be a good plan /or the inhabitants of the principal business thoroughfares to each contribute and pay a small sum for a night watchman, as a precaution again* t further like calamities. The Secretary was directed to repair the bridges near ths residences of Mr Watts and Mr Osman.
