WAIMEA-STREET SEWER.

To the Editor of thb Evening Mail. Sir — Your notice of the . meeting of the Board of Works on Monday last omitted to give that without which Mr Austin's report upon the new sewer was unintelligible, an omission which no doubt accounts for the conclusions you appear to have arrived at, which conclusions do not, in my opinion, exact'y agree with Mr Austin's complete report. In addition to the remarks of Mr Austin which you published, a plan with levels of the sewer was also sent by that gentleman to the Board, from which I extract the following particulars. It appears that the bottom of the sewer between Patterson's corner and the proposed outfall attains its highest point at the BridgeStreet manhole. Starting from tint point therefore, I find that the bottom of the sewer at the Bridge-street man-hole is — Four-tenths of a foot higher than at Patters an's Corner. £ix-tentb.3 of a foot higher than under • the Tramway, Four-tentha of a foot higher than at manhole at Colonist Office. Two-tenths of a foot higher than at the present end of sewer. Seven-tenths of a foat higher than at proposed outfall. A comparison of these figures will, I think, give a clear idea of the levels of the sewer throughout. I have only to add that your remnrka as to the part which " one member " of tho Board, (by which I can only conclude I am intended), has taken ia this matter arc, so far as I am concerned, not in accordance with the facts. I am, &c, Chables Y. Fell.
