The otjects of the meeting were to enquire (1) in what particulars the purchase by the Government of Waipoenamu was wrong. (2.) Whether the promises regarding schools and hospitals by which the Maoris were induced to sell, have been fulfilled. (3.) How much money will ba paid, or land returned, by ths Government in fulfillment of their promises. (4.) To take the opinion of the meeting upon the question whether they approve of ths demand made by George Grey Tftiaroa in Parliament in 1873 for £2 000,000 as compensation for unfulfilled claims in this Island. (5.) To enquire into the rentals arising from, reserves retained in the hands of the Government, cr leased by them. (6.) To decide what means roust be taktn to make the Govprnment fulfil their promises, and whether the matter shall be brought before the New Zealand or English Parliament, or into the courts of law. Mateha Tira, Moreha Uoroniona, Puheu, and Pohihipa spoke strongly against the treatment by the Government of th» Maoris in this Island. Uo decison has yet been come to.
