The booth-sites for the Friendly Societies' Fete, on the Anniversary of the Province, were sold this day, by Mr. John R. Mabin, by auction. The prices obtained, and the purchasers, are as follows :-*— For Licensed Victuallers' site, No. 1, £5 10s, Win. Good ; No. 2, £2 15s , F. Stock ; No 3, £3, J. Tregea. Confectioners', No. 1, £2, Moller ; No. 2, Moller, £2 ; JSto, 3, Donaldson, £2 15s. The bite for skittles was bought by T. Hall for £2 ss, Mr. Mabin reports sales of National Insurance shares at 18s. 6d.
Weslbtan Sunday Schools. —The anniversary of these schools will be celebrated to-morrow, when two sermons will be preached by the Rev T. Buddie, in the /inwfliog on "The government of the jhpuaefacjd," and in the evening on " Tlie dangers pf youth," and at three o'clock an will be delivered to parents and
children. On Tuesday there will be a tea meeting, after which a public meeting will be held, when addresses will be given by several ministers aud friends. John Chinaman has fairly taken possession of the streets of Nelson, a large number of that race being passengers by the Alhambra, which arrived from the South this morning. They will proceed in her to the West Coast, which has attracted a great many of them lately, some twenty or thirty having arrived by every steamer from the South for some weeks past. Oddfellows : Loyal Howard Lodge. —The finance meeting of the members of the Howard Lodge was held on Wednesday evening last, when the Auditors' Keport and balance-sheet for the previous half-year were read and adopted. During the half-year the amount disbursed as sick-pay to Brothers was £90 12s 4d : and, after payment of the management expenses, the funeral and district levies, and the widows and orphans' allowances, the additions to the capital amounted to £41 14s sd. This Lodge— although not numbering so may members as the Nelson Lodge, which has been longer established -~is by far the wealthiest in the Nelson district. Its accumulated and invested capital now amounts to £2456 15s 6d besides its one-half share of the value of the Oddfellows' Hall and land j and this strong financial position of the Howard Lodge offers every assurance to present and intending members that its obligations will be faithfully discharged. The Lodge numbers 140 members. At a Lodge meeting held on the 31st December last V.Gr, Steward was elected and duly installed as N.Gr.; Secretary Edward Adams V.G.; and Brother W. F. Burnett as ns Elective Secretary. Brothers J. W. Wigzell, P.P.G.M., Edward Adams Y.Gy, and E. Moore, Permanent Secretary, were cho3en delegates to attend the district meeting, to be held in Nelson on Tuesday next, and Brothers Wigzell, E. Edwards, and Otterson were appointed auditors. At the Lodge meeting on Wednesday last Brother E. Moore was re-elected Per/mauent Secretary, and Brother W.W.. Squires, P.Gr. and M.D. was re-elected Surgeon.
