The governing body of the Canterbury College recently authorised Lord Lyttelton to select a Professor of Chemistry, who would be expected to have a complete knowledge of chemistry, and to be able to teach it us app'ied to agriculture, art nud mauufacturoj, ujid ulbo mineralogy and electricity and its application. Last week' the following telegram from Lord Lyttelton was received; — ''London, 10th December. Have found gentleman, first-rate qualifications as Profesaor of Chemistry. Married. JSequirea £300. for passage, £sqO for apparatus, £150 yearly for an assistant, and passage money. {Strongly recommended/ Advise acceptance by telegram. — -Ltttblton." The Governors by return telegram authorised Ms Lordship j,o conclude the engagement on terms ineß&oned.
