The proposal to purchase the Great Britain has been dropped. Bristol and Milford Haven will be the ports of departure. Colonel Garnet Wolsley, the newly appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Gold Coast, has sai'ed with his staff. A powerful fleet, with a large quantity of ammunition, proceeds to West Africa. The Archbishop of Paris has issued a pastoral strongly attacking the Italian Government. The Shah of Persia has dismissed His Highnefs Hajee Mirza Hussan Khan, the Grand Vizier. The race for the Doncaster Cup resulted thus— Uhlan, 1; Lilian, 2; Thorn, 3 The proposal has been mooted for extending Marshal M'Mahon's term of office as President of the French Republic. In a railway accident at Guildford, three persons were killed and thirteen were injured. The Doncaster St Leger was run on the 10th instant. Maria Stuart first, Doncaster second, Kaiser third; Gang Forward did not start, having met with an accident. The Due de Casis has been gazetted French Ambassador to the Court of London. The Russian Government have imposed a contribution of 30,000 roubles upon the Zamadan Turcomans, and sent a strong body of cavalry, infantry, and artillery to collect it. They were met by a force of 10,000 Turcomans, who were defeated, with 800 killed. General Kauffman has arrived at Hilgalla, with reinforcements from Kbiva, where the defeat of the Zamadan forces produced a great effect. Colonel Stuart and the crew of the steamyacht Deerhound, which was laden with arms for the Carlists and captured by the Republican Government have been sent for trial to Ferrol, in the Province of Galicia. H.M.S. Daph-e has captured in the Indian Ocean an Arab dhow, which originally started with 3CO slaves. At the time of the seizure only 50 were alive. The others had died of smallpox. A third steamer has been chartered to convey troops to the Gold Coast, so that the war with the Ashantees may be carried on with greater vigor. Eight cases of death through cholera occurred in Paris on the 11th instant. It is stated officially tint seven million hectolitres of corn will be enough to meet the deficiency ocrasioned by the failure of the harvest.
