In the House to-day, bills were read the first time to amend the Census Act ; to provide for regulations and the inspection of railways; to fix the duties payable on the alienation of native lands; to make provision for the assessment thereof; for re-hearing the claimants of native lands and other matters to be heard before the Native Lands Court; to define the interests of the Natives in the lands held jointly by them under the Crown grants, and to extend the operations of the "Native Lands Act, 1873," to such landsMr Sueehan gave notice of a motion for the return of all amounts paid to newspapers and printing offices during the past year. A discussion is now on for leave to introduce a bill to reduce the number and to increase the salaries of Ministers, in accordance with the recommendation of the Committee.
