Wellington, September 12. The Wellington Jockey Club have resolved to hold races next Marcb. There will be a handicap of 150 sovereigns, a Town Plate, and also a Cup of 100 sovereigns. Messrs M'Meekan and Blackwood, today presented, by their agent, a gold watch to Captain Carey for rescuing the passengers of the Rangitoto. Subscriptions in aid of the sufferers by tbe late Auckland fire are being raised. A correspondent in the Post to-nighi, accnßes Mr Fox of being tbe correspondent of the Wanganui Chronicle, and Southern/ Cross, and other papers, and of attacking members of the House under tbe cloak of anonymity. The Colonial Industries % Committee has reported, recommending railway works to connect the Buller coalfields with Westport. Tbe estimated cost of the first section connecting with.tbe"aoalfieldß is for labor £8000; possible time for constructing it, six months. The coal will then be avaiiahjg^ .gfe "^^^-siffilifcl becompfeted in nine months if the work proceeds vigorously. The Ngakawhao harbor works are condemned, and any expenditure thereon is deprecated. The evidence given by Mr Beetbam ia unfavorably criticised. September 13.
