Resident Magistrate's Covet. — William Cook, steward of the barque Annie Braginton, was yesterday charged before the Resident Magistrate with stealing certain goods and articles of clothing, the property of Mr and Mrs Green, passengers by that vessel. The charge having been fully proved, prisoner was sent to gaol for six weeks. Fues.— There ia now on view at the Masonic Hall a beautiful collection of furs, skins, &c, the product of the Australian Colonies, which are being exhibited by Mr Benjamin of the firm of Benjamin Brothers of Melbourne and Dunedio. Some idea of the magnitude of their trade may be formed when it is stated that they keep 200 hands constantly in employ at their factory. The stock at present iv Nel6on is well worth a visit, comprising aa it does rugs of all descriptions, as well ac skins of the kangaroo, opossum, wallaby, native cat,Tasmanian hyena, leopard, and tiger, and also the feathers of the emu. There are also hearth rugs of Brussels carpet adapted for drawing room use, bordered with furs and emu feathers. Lady visitors will find fur sets of every description, the coloura being beautifully and artistically blended. We recommeDd them to pay Mr Benjamin a visit. The Hall will be open to-night until 9 o'clock, and 'tomorrow until 10. — Advt. Oddfellows' Hall. — There was a very successful entertainment last night, when the farce entitled the Area Belle was capitally acted by La Petite Amy, Mr Thornton aud some local amateurs, by one of whom there were also performed some clever conjuring tricks. The hit of the evening, however, was the explanation afforded of the " aerial supension," which, as Mr Thornton showed, was effected by means of steel bars supporting the arm and leg of the person " suspended." There will be a performance again to-night, and another tomorrow afternoon commencing at half-past two, on both of which occasions there will be a number of tricks of legerdemain exhibited and explained. Tomorrow, as an additional attraction, a number of presents will be distributed among the audience.
