Melbourne, August 27. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's report, dated London, 23rd August, says:— The wcol sales closed firm on the 16th. They comprised about 200,000 bales, of which 120,000 have been taken for the Continent. Tallow ia in good demand. Mutton, 435, beef 41.8 per cwt. Leather: best hides may be quoted at Is l^d per Ib. Wheat: the probable deficiency of the present harvest is estimated to be about fifteen per cent. Although short in quantity the quality is good. New Zealand hemp has risen 30s per ton since last report.
