THE TARIFF.
Thefollowing telegrams have been received from Nelson members : — Double taxation on articles Principle altogether wrong. E. J. O'Conor. It nenrly doubles taxation. A. S. Collins Official information will be given, cannot decide until in possession of facts. C. Parker. Reliable official returns will soon be laid on table showing difference in taxation between the two tariffs. Cannot form opiuian till I see them. A J. Richmond. I concur in principal of tariff as more equable, but think certain modification in rates and classification necessary. If importers exhibit false invoices they should be punished for fraud and subject to fine and forfeiture. lam favorable to any judicious fiscal scheme tending improvement prospects of internal production to keep large portion of wages paid in colony and establish means for employing rising generation, subject to certain modifications.
