A deputation of the Chamber of Commerce presented a petition with 1000 signatures, in fiivor of n San Fnmciseo forty-days' service, at a cost of £68,000, instead of a forty-five days' service at £48,000. In answer, Mr Parkes stated that the Government favored the best San Francisco service, buf. did not urcti ipala that the ! cost, after deducing postage made, would be more ihan £20,000. New Zealand had been offered the conveyance of mails to Fiji, at a cost of sixpence a letter. New Zealand had provided a branch service thence. Melbourne, July 24.
