Resolved on the motion of Mr Smith— " That Mr Wastney be chairman of this meeting." Resolved, on the motion of Mr Rout-— ' • That a Finance Committee for 1873-4 he appointed, whose duty it shall be " to report to the Board at its next meeting ; such Committee to consist of Messrs Barnicoat, Wigzeli, R. Smith, Wastney, Burn, Simmons, and the .mover, and to meet July 18 th," The question of withdrawing the , subsidy from Blackett - street School, Charleston, was considered, when it was resolved that a continuance of a subsidy to that school, together with the whole subject of subsidies, be referred to the Finance 'Committee. A letter from the Secretary to the late Westport Committee, informing the Board of the resignation of the Local Committee, was read, when the Secretary was instructed to advise the Superintendent that the Westport Committee had resigned. A letter was read from the Secretary of the late Westport Committee requesting payment by tbe Board of sundry further liabilities, amounting to £7 7s 6d, and incurred like the former amount of £10 9s 6d, without the authority, of- the Board. It was resolved, on the motion of .Mr Rout, "That the Westport Committee be requested, in accordance with clause 11 of the Education Act, to furnish the Board with a statement of tbe expenditure of the £10 allowed last year for contingencies, as this sum was placed at the diaposßl of Local Committees for the express purpose of defraying the cost of Buch items as the Board is now called upon to pay."

Resolved, on the motion of Mr Thorpe, " That the Rev P. C. Simmons and Mr W. C. Ho.dgson, be requested to act as Examiners for the Provincial Scholarships for the present year, on the understanding that the Central Board will recognise the decision of the Examiners, in any question touching the Examination, as final." The Secretary was instructed to request such of the Local Committees as have not yet sent in their balance-sheets and estimate of requirements for 1878 4, to forward them, to the Secretary by July 16. The Secretary watf instructed to apply to the Snperintendent for the use of the jury room for the meetings of the Board. A memorial from tbe Pangatotara Committee, requesting that the half-time system there be discontinued, and that school be conducted at the South Pangatotara School only for the present, was read. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Thorpe, that, in accordance with , the report of the Inspector, the half-time system at Pangatotara be. discontinued; also that, in compliance with the request of the memorialists, school be conducted for the present at the south school exclusively. The Secretary was instructed to ask, by advertisement, for sketch plans and estimates of the cost of a schoolroom, in Bridge-street, for 180 boys, to be forwarded to him not later than July 16. Mr Talbot gave notice that he would move at the next meeting, "That the salary of the master of Richmond Boys' School be increased; also, tbat the salaries of the monitors at the Girls' School be considered." Mr Percy gave notice that, in pursuance of the recommendation contained in the Inspector's Report, he would move at next meeting of tho Board, " That an assistant teacher be appointed to the second division of Hardy-street Girls' School, with a view of relieving the Preparatory School of some of tbe elder scholars who now attend that school, which is at present overcrowded.
