Increased Representation, — It will be seen by our Council report that two additional members were last night granted to the South West Goldfields on the casting vote of the Speaker. Nelson and West Coast Kail-way. — The Provincial Secretary will move to night, That the Council resolve itself into Committee for the consideration of His Honor the Superintendent's message relative to railway communication. « Eesid: nt Magistrate's Court. — John Barrett and William Eden, two of Mr Brogden's navvies, were this morning charged with indecently exposing their persons in the public streets. Both prisoners bave more than once before been brought up on a charge of drunkenness, and the Resident Magistrate in sentencing them said that they appeared to think that because they were in the colonies they might do as they pleased, but they would have to learn (hat thero was quite as mnch i regard here for decency and morality as |in the home country. Barrett was com- \ mitted to gaol for a month,' and Eden for fourteen days. Customs Returns. — The Custom House returns for the March quarter of tbe present year bave just been published, and show a gratifying expansion of the trade of the colony. The imports during the quater were of the value of £1,517,312, compared with £1,219,497 in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The exports amounted to £2,850,915, being an increase of £439,128 over the exports of the March quarter of 1872. There was a marked increase in the gold - production of the quarter, which reached 201,1150z5, valued at £771,737, while the production of the March quarter of last year was only £604,954.
