"VTOTICE. — - The following Clause of the _L>l "Scab Act- Amendment Act, 1869," is published for general information : — I " Every owner of sheep shall, in the month * of January in each year, make a Return to the Chief Inspector, of the Number of Sheep in his charge in the Province of Nelson, on the Ist day of January in such year ; and shall, in the month of February in each year, pay or cause to ' to be paid to the Treasurer of the province a sum of money at the rate of three shillings per hundred for all sheep in his charge upon the Ist day of January in such year ; and in default thereof the same may be sued for in the name of any Inspector, and the proof of the number of sheep in his charge shall rest "with the defendant." The claim is situate at Bedstead Gully, Collingwood, and comprises over thirty-five acres held under lease, fourteen and a-half of which have neea recently acquired. There is a Battery of Twenty Stampers at the Mine, ten of which have been in use for. about three years, and are at present in perfect working order; the others were recently erected, and only require the tables being laid to be ready for use. The mine has been opened in various places by levels and an inclined drive, from which 68 12 tons have been crushed, yielding 2656 ozs. gold, j whieh sold for £10,090 12s. Od., equal to an ! average of over 7 dwts. 19 grains gold, or about 75s 6d per ounce. The power for working the Battery at present used is derived from a race, the fluming of which was all new, and the earthwork repaired in 1871, and which can be made capable of carrying, sufficient water to drive the twenty stampers. There is also a single-stamp Battery, Retorthouee, Manager's residence, Stables, Huts, &c , and all the usual plant of a mine.
