The difference between tho number of scholars on the books, and of those in actual attendance appears to be due to the temporary engagement of several of the bigger boys in the preparation of flax. Notwithstanding, however,tbis'\unfbrtutfate withdrawaljof some of the elder and more advanced pupils, the school appeared to me fairly to maintain its long, standing and excellent reputation. ' Not having been made acquainted with the number of prizes which the Committee propose to award to the 'several classes, lam unable to prepare an exact Prize List', I send the names of the best pupils in each class, and their order of attainment, which will enable the Committee *i assign 'the piizes in such numbers as they may determine : — First Class, Ist, William Bartlett; 2nd, Catherine O'Cannor; 3rd, Patrick O'Connor ; Second Class, Ist, Georglrna" Thorbiirn- 2nd, Alice Satherly; Third Class, Ist, Sarah Challies; 2nd, Ellen G'C -nor; 3rd, Esther Satherly; Fourth Class, Ist, ]?'orence Hammond; 2nd, Owen Newport; 3rd, Sidney Satherley. I did not examine the two lowest classes, believing in the case of such very young children their relative me :ts may be much better . ascertained by the t'.acher, than by the examiner. This has consequently bcin determined by Miss Thorburn as foHows : — sth class, Ist, Herbert Ford, 2nd, Theresa Mercer; 6th class, Ist, Alice Hammond, I am, &c, J. W. B^nNICOAT. Two special prizes were given by he teacher, for good conduct to Wi'liam Challies; marked process, to Lucy Challies; 'tan_____N________— ____*____mb_*___»wm__w___w______wj________w__'
