His Honor the Superintendent op Nelson to the Hon. Colonial Secretary.

SlK— I have the honor to request your attention to my letter of the 17th July, in which I asked for an advance to the Province of Ihe sum of five thousand pounds (£5000) from the funds available for aiding ihe development of coalmines, for the purpose of constructing a wooden tramway from the Brunner Coalmine to ihe mouth of the River Grey. As I have already, in the letter above referred to, fully stated the ground upon which the application is made, the advantages which I anticipate would be derived from the expenditure of the money in the manner proposed, as well as the nature of the security I am prepared to offer for its repayment, I have now only to request that I may be favored with the decision of the Government at the earliest possible date, as the most favorable period of the year for the execution of the work has now arrived. I have, &c, Oswald Curtis, ■ Superintendent of Nelson. Wellington, October 25, 1872.
