London, February 4. — The Russian movement against Khiva is of a character to excite serious apprehension in Europe. Kussia has seDt an army of 150,000 men, and a large field of artillery. The force is far fceyond what is required for the alleged Eussian purposes. The Continental papers regard it as a challenge to England, and the Russian press indicates contempt of English interference. Thiers and his Parliament are still unfriendly. London, February s.— The Times and other journals are discussing the Khivan question, and point out that England need not be alarmed at Russia's preparations in Khiva, as Russia could not long maintain a war in Europe and Asia, whereas England, if necessary, could make large sacrifices to do so, and for a sustained conflict. There is unusual activity at the arsenal [query Woolwich]. The press denies that it is more than is necessary for the usual requirements of the country. Dr. Featherston expects a speedy recovery. His official duties are fully provided for. Flax easier. A private telegram dated Antwerp, February 5, states that the continental wool markets are firm, and the February prices in London are ex- ; pected to reach those of July last.
