THE BRUNNER RAILWAY.
The following conversation took place recently at the Brunner mine between two persons, one rcently from Europe : — M. You have a splendid • property in this mine. JY. Yes,'it is a fine mine. Do you think there is any probability of a railway being constructed soon on either side of the river ? M.: I don't know. The money voted is not .sufficient. > Blackett's proposed bridge will not do. It will cost a large sum of money to throw a bridge across here. * ■' iZlf. I have carefully surveyed the North side and there is no difficulty there; indeed from Taylor's ground Jo Tomkios', a distance of/over two. miles, there is a uniform fall, without disturbing the ground, of one inch to the-chain. The cost of railway and rollings stock by this route will be under £15;dOOj M. Great stress is laid on the shipping berthing on the, South side of the river, and the agents living there; so I think it is concluded to take the railway down the South side, cost what it will. N. Newcastie-on-Tyne, I: believe, labors under the same disadvantages, but they could.not afford; to ship the coals so cheaply if thsy had done what the Grey-, mouth people wish to be done here, v
