Wellington, November 27. The new Public Hall, unfinished, had a narrow escape from fire. The plumber's boy accidentally put a light against the walls, setting fire to the scrim. It was extinguished with little damage. Chbistchttbch, November 27. UTo clue has yet been obtained as to the cause of the fire. The agent of the Northern Insurance Company has made a present of valuable books to the library of the Fire Brigade, Mr Hughes, bookseller, has also presented 53 vols. Auckland, November 22. At the inquest on the fire yesterday, there was an open verdict, with a iiuer of disapprobation on the using of naked candles in flax stores. Disatisfaction was expressed at the positionand condition of the Fire Brigades. The Education BjUl passed its second reading. '
