Oddfellows' Hall. — We call attention to the entertainment to be given by Mr Bromley and Miss Emily Neilson, at the Oddfellows' Hall, this eveoiog. Christchurch Exhibition. — We are glad to find that some steps are being taken towards insuring the Province of Nelson being represented at the ChristchurcU and Vienna Exhibitions. Messrs C. Hunter Brown, T. Mackay, and George Williams have been appointed by tbe Superintendent a Committee to arraDge for tbe transmission of exhibits. Government Gazette. — The Gazette of the 13th instant notifies the appointment of George William Schroder as Cattle Inspector for tbe district of Nelson South. Captain and Adjutant Lockett has been promoted to be Major in the New Zealand Militia. The resignation of Honorary EDsign F. HornemaDjOf the Motueka Rifle Cadets, bas been accepted. Provincial Prize Firing. — The firing by the Nelson City Rifles for the Provincial Government prizes commenced . this morning, wben the highest scores / were made by Sergeant Burn 44, Private Crosman 42, and Captain Sinclair 40. The firing will be continued to-morrow, when we shall give a full report of tbe scores obtained. The Peeress Scandal. — The following address has been presented to tbe members of the Canterbury Jockey Club. It was largely and influentially signed : — J "To the members of the Canterbury Jockey Club. Gentlemen — We, the undersigned, desire to thank you for tbe fearless manner in which you have discharged a very responsible duty, in your decision in the ' Peeress case,' and we fully concur in the opinion that the adoption of .any other course would have effectually ruined racing in Canterbury." Wesleyan District Meeting. — The annual session of the Wesleyan District Meeting began in Wellington on Wednesday morning, in the Manners-street Church, under the presidency of the Rev. Thos. Buddie, District Chairman. The following ministers were present : — Revs. Buddie and Smalley, Wellington; Harper, Hatt, M'Nicol, Wairarapa; Berry, Wan- / ganui; Richardson, Blenheim; Watkin and Caonell, Nelson; Thomas, Dewsbury, and Taylor, Westland. The Rev. Mr. Watkin was elected secretary, with the Rev. Mr. Canaell as assistant. On the following day the meetiDg was occupied with the stations of the ministers for the . next year, and with the reports of connectional funds. The stations are under correction, and wiU-be-publishetJ-in a day. or 7 two. The following lay gentlemen were present : Messrs, Nancarrow, 7 Moxham, Shannon,. Knight, Clark, Lucas, and Kitchen. Five new churches have been ! erected in the 7 district during thia year.
