FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS, tenable for two years, are OFFERKD for COMPETITION to such pupils of the Public Schools of the Province as have completed their twelfth year, and have attended a Provincial School for the last two years. ... Tlie value of the two Scholarships given by the Provincial Conncil (which are open only to scholars who have attended Country Schools) is £40 per annum, to which the Governors of the College add a free education. The Governors' Scholarships carry with them a free education at the College. Candidates must present themselves at the College, with certificates of attendance, on WEDNESDAY, December 4th, at Ten a.m. Arrangements will be made for local examina tions on the West Coast. Stamp Duty payable on Cheques, Draits, and Receipts is reduced from Twopence to One Penny, on and from the Ist December, 1872. 1. Persons holding Adhesive Stamps of the value of 'J wopence may, -by requisition on the Stamp Office of the Province, or on any Depository of Stamps, exchange the same for an equivalent value of Adhesive Stamps at One Penny, or any other denomination. 2; Fersons holding Stamps afc Twopence, Impressed on blank forms of Cheques, Drafts, or Receipts, may exchange the same in like manner for Adhesive Stamps of other denominations. But no exchanges of Stamps at Twopence, Impressed on blank forms of Cheques or Drafts, will be made after the 30th November proximo, except at the reduced value of One Penny. C. T. Office of the Commissioner of Stamp Duties, Wellington, 22nd October, 1872. 2472 PATENT for "A Self-acting Apparatus for Saving Gold or Other Substances, by Hydraulic Pressure and Gravitation Combined." This is to notify that HENRY JAGGERS, of Invercargill, in the Province of Otago, Tinsmith, and JAMES BROWN, of Invercargill, in the Province of Otago, New Zealand, Photographer, did, on the fourteenth day of September last, deposit at the Office of the Patent Officer, in the Colonial Secretary's Office, in Wellington, a specification or instrument in writing under their hands and seals, particularly describing and ascertaining the nature of the said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed; and that by reason ot such deposit the said invention is protected and secured to them exclusively for the term of six calender months thence next ensuing. And I do further notify that the said HENRY JAGGERS and JAMES BROWN have given notice in writing at my office of their intention ■to proceed with their application for Letters Patent for the said invention, and that I have appointed Friday, the thirty-first day of January next, at eleven o'clock in the -forenoon, at my office, to hear ' and consider the said application and all objections thereto; and I do hereby require , all persons haying an interest in opposing the grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the twenty- seventh day of January, aX.my office in Wellington, particulars in writing of their objections te the said application, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.
