Harmonic<*:Sooiety.— The attention of members of this Society is called to the advertisement altering the date for the rehearsal for the coming concert from Tuesday to Monday evening, the change having been rendered necessary by the public meeting to be held on Tuesday. that nothing herein contained shall authorise the levying of any rate exceeding 5 per cent upon tho annual value ,of any property, or one penny in the pound on its value for sale." With reference to the alteration from one shilling to half-a^ crown we are somewhat at a loss", as no mention is made of any such sum in the clause referred to. Mouteke Road Board — A meetings of this Board took place at the Biidge Inn Hotel, Moutere, August 3 S All the raem- ; hers present. J The secretary read a. letter from the Provincial Secretary informing the Board that the Provincial Engineer had recommended that the £500 voted by the Provincial Council for altering and improving the road between Waimea West and Moutere, should be laid out on the present road, by easing the steep gradients, and to effect this £250 had been paid to the credit of tbe Moutere Board, and- the balance to the Waimea Board. Resolved : "That the Secretary acknowledge receipt of letter, and inform the Government that the Board regrets the decision of tbe Provincial Engineer, believing a much better road could have been made up Rising Sun Valley, and down Redwoods Valley; also that the Secretary write to the Waimea Board respecting the expenditure of the above mentioned sum." " That tho Secretary inßpeet Old House Road, also the bridge on road to Rosedale, and have them made passable." "That the Secretary prepare the assessment of the district for the Board's inspection at next meeting." "That the Secretary take the necessary steps for effecting alteration of roads to Rosedale, Blackbird and Rising Sun Valleys, and Perry's Hill." The Secretary wos instructed to write to Mr Dencker respecting certain Acts, which liß had refused to give up on ceasing to be a member of the Board.
