PROVINCIAL.
Dunedin, August 9. A public meeting held at Port Chalmers adopted resolutions in favor ot the immediate extension of the trunk line from Moeraki to Port Chalmers. A passenger by the Nebraska writing to the Daily Times says that there was no occasion for the vessel's quarantine at Wellington, but that it was insisted upon because the Board of Health -wished to get credit for energy at the expense of Webb's line. - Plunamer, the Auckland housebreaker, who formed one of the prison gang at work on the hill-side, obtained leave to go to the place of convenience, when he- managed to jump over the fence unobserved, and getting a good start, found his way into the dense bush between Mornington and CaversUHOf, and up to the present time has eluded the vigilant ■ search that was at once instituted.
