Mr. Morton Tavares, with Miss Surtees, is playing at Kaiapoi. Professor Haselmayer, with Mr. Small, is performing in Christchurch. It is reported that the Government of South Australia has received ,an offer from Melbourne to construct the trans-Austra-lian railway for a grant of 100,000,000 acres. " Tiiere is some talk," says the Echo, ♦ ' of the Welling ton Independent changing its politics again. How is this ? Are there no land transfer advertisements to be had?" The Arawa natives are much alarmed at the spread of smallpox, and have asked the Government to make provision for their vaccination. The Government has acceded to their request.
