The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, MAY 4, 1872.
Stoke Farmers' Club — The monthly meeting of this institution will be held iv the Schoolroom, Stoke, on Monday evening, at 7 o'clock. Christ Church. — We are requested to state that the Bishop of Nelson will preach in Christ Church to-morrow evening, when the subject of his sermon will be " The Thanksgiving Day, and why it should be observed." Pigeon Match. — A match bas been arranged to take place on Monday or Tuesday next on the racecourse, in which Mr. H. Redwood has backed himself for £50 to kill thirty out of fifty pigeons at 25 yards rise with an ounce charge. Thanksgiving Day. — A short special service will be held in Christ Church on Thursday morning next at half-past ten. The members of the choirs of Christ Church and All Saints' are invited to meet for practice in the former church on Wednesday evening. American Minstrels. — This company gave a very excellent entertainmeut last night to a much larger audience than they had previously drawn, the whole of whom were greatly pleased with the manner in which the programme was carried out. There will be another performance this evening. Hurdle Race. — We understand that a match for £25 a side, two miles over eight flights of hurdles, will come off on the racecourse on Monday next, at 1 p.m., between Mr. Thomas' bay gelding Equity, and Mr. Proffitt's chestnut gelding Ronald, each carrying lOst. 71b.
