PLOUGHING MATCH.
The ploughing match advertised by the Stoke Farmers' Club took place yesterday, in a paddock belonging to Mr. 11. Martin, the judges being Messrs. Songer, Smith, and Biggar. One of the conditions of the match being that it should be open to residents in the district only, the number of competitors was but small, though we should have thought that Stoke would have been able to furnish on such an occasion more than three men for each of tbe two descriptions of ploughs. Probably, however, the festivities at Richmond proved more attractive, and to ibis cause, perhaps, may be assigned the paucity of competitors. The result of tho two trials of skill was as follows : — Swing Ploughs. J. Pay nter (Horusby), Ist prize. H. Ching (Ransome), 2nd do. J. Doidge (Ransome). Wheel Ploughs T. Giblin (Rnnsome). Ist prize. C. Norgnte (Ransome), 2nd do. H. Parker (Uornsby). Prizes were afterwards offered ior the straightest furrow, and for these th< re were seven competitors, T. Giblin, J. Doidge, J. Paynter, C. Norgate, H. Ching, C. Chiug, and H. Parker, the prizes being tnkeu by the three first, in the order in which they are named. At the termination of the proceedings, Mr. Luckie presented the various prizes, addressing a few words of encouragement to each of the competitors.
