Inspection is Invited. 825 TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF NELSON. GENTLEMEN— It is with repret that I have to announce to you my resignation as your Representative in the General Assembly ; my visit to England, on private business, preventing my attendance at the next session of Parliament. Could I have possibly attended the next Session of Parliament I should have taken active steps to induce Ministers to introduce a measure for opening up the country by soma practical road ot easy construction to connect the now thriving township of the Inangahua and intervening districts with the City of Nelson, payment to be made in land and cash. This important work, I believe, would tend largely to promote the commercial pro>perity of the City. My interest was solicited by an independent supporter of the present Government a short time back in Wellington to a resolution to be introduced next Session, to the effect that no Member of the House s ould be eligible for any Government Appointment, unless he ceased to be a Member for IS mon'hs ; this resolution I should have supported. Gentlemen, should the experience and information bbtiinfd by a visit to the home country in any way qualify me to again serve you, I shall deem it a duty to do so. I thank you for tho privilege and honor of representing you in the Parliament of the Colony, and rema n, Yours obediently, M. LIGHTBAND. Nelson. April -6. 1872. 826
