MELBOURNE.
The Loch Levin is a total wreck on King's Island. The salvage of a quantity of wool has been effected by the Tararua and other steamers. Captain Branscombe was drowned in the attempt to get on board to save effects. The action for libel of Henderson versus the Daily Telegraph for articles having reference to the Nunawading affair, resulted in a verdict for the plaintiff, damages one farthing. Iraproper intimacy was strenously denied, but kissing in presence of the husband was admitted. A meeting was held at the Criterion for the purpose of expressing sympathy with, and raising a fund to recoup the Telegraph for law costs, when a considerable sum "was collected. The Colonial Empire has arrived with Government immigrants; She has been placed in quarantine for a few days. The Coryphoeus, from China to Melbourne, has been wrecked in Marshall's Archipelago. The captain and crew in two boats reached Rockhampton, after 47 days' exposure. The Assembly, after much opposition, has resolved upon granting a bonus of £3000 to the ex- Speaker, instead of a pension.
