The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1871.

The s.s. Gothenburg is now due at Hokitika, but it is uot known whether she has arrived, owing to telegraphic communication with the West Coast being suspended. The Outgoing Suez Mail. — The Suez mail will be made up at the Post Oflice to-morrow night at 8 o'clock, for transmission by the Claud Hamilton, which will arrive here from Wellington to-night, and sail again for Melbourne via the West Coast early on Monday morning. American Excelsior Minstrels. — As we anticipated, the Oddfellows' Hall was crowded last night, the burlesque Opera, " The Bohemian Gal " proviDg an attraction that could not be resisted. The singing in the first part of the performance was quite up to tbe mark of the previous eveniDgs, while the jokes and oddities of tbe two corner men were laughable to a degree. The harp solo consisting of old and familiar melodies with variations was beautifully executed, and was loudly encored. Of the dancing and " negro sketches" it is quite needless to. speak, but we must say a word in praise of Mr. Amery's singing in the "Village Blacksmith," as also of the masterly manner in which the instrumental accompaniment was played. With regard to the Burlesque we are^ not quite sure what to say. Of course, every one went fully prepared to see a burlesque but the excellent singing of those who took part in it continually made us wish tbat we were not obliged by the surroundings to laugh while listening to it. For instance, what could be more exquisite than Mr. Clarke's singing of "When other Lips," what more absurd than the circumstances under which he sung it ? However, when a roomful of people is kept in incessant laughter, it is quite clear that none of them are. disposed to bo too critical, and this was the case last night. The Company give their last entertainment this evening, as they purpose:- starting for Wellington < * in [ the" Gothenburg on Monday. jI
