RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

[Before J. Sham?, Esq., R.M.] This Day. Hugh Martin was charged by tbe Inspector of Sbeep with permitting diseased sheep to stray on the public road contrary to the provisions of the Nelson Scab Act. Case dismissed as there was no evidence to prove the ownership of the sheep. James Robinson, Henry Livick, and Charles Dartnall were charged by Moss Davis with breaking the windows of the Jewish synagogue. Mr. Fell appeared for the complainant, and Mr. Pitt for the defendants. The case was dismissed, there being no evidence whatever against the accused. His Worship remarked that he should like to see these offences brought home to the perpetrators of them as it was quite time that a stop was put to the breaking of windows aDd removal of gates, of which there was such frequent complaint. William May, and — Kesell, aged respectively 9 and 8 years, were charged with having entered Mrs. Cook's schoolroom, in Hardy Street, through the window, where they stayed all night, and did certain damage to the furniture, the offence being traced to them by their having left their boots behind them, when they left the building iv the morning. The information was withdrawn, the object iv laying it beiug simply to bring the ca9e before the public. His Worship, in dismissing the defendants, said that it , was a downright disgrace to the parents j that they should permit children of such j tender ages to be absent from home when- I ever they pleased, without knowing where or how they were spending their time.
