Diocesan Synod. — The next Beseion of the Synod of tbe diocese of Nelson, will commence on Wednesday the 27th inst. Dredging. — A meeting of those who are disposed to enter into " dredging " speculations are invited to meet at the MasoDic Hotel, this evening, at 7 o'clock. Drawing Room Christy's Entertainment. — It will be seen by advertisement that the date of this entertainment has been altered from Tuesday the 12 th to Monday the I Ith inst. Winter Evening Lectures.— There was a large audience at the Assembly Room last night, to hear Mr. J. C. Richmond's lecture on "Communism, Socialism, and the Idea of Property." The evening was devoted to a slight sketch of Communism as it prevailed in the early ages, which was made most interesting by the concise and connected manner in which it was given. The ground having been "thus prepared, Mr. Richmond stated his intention to continue his lecture on Friday evening the 15th inst., an announcement which was received with j much applause. The chair was taken by j the Rev. G. H. Johnstone, and a vote of thanks to the lecturer was moved by Dr. j Irvine. I
