CORRESPONDENCE.

o *** We are desirous of affording every reasonable facility for the discussion of public subjects; but it mast be understood that we are in no way responsible for the opinions expressed by correspondents. To the Editor op tub Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — Iv your last night's issue I observe that you, 'pass some rather severe strictures upon the householders of Nelson for what you are pleased to term their ""srpathy" in matters pertaining to the education of their children, your remarks being founded principally on the small attendance on Tuesday last at the meeting called for the purpose of electing members of ' the locai committee. I quite agree with you as to the desirability of a larger amount of interest being displayed in*- this, matter, but, I would ask, did it ever occur to you that the hour appointed for these meetings jis such as to preclude working men, and- indeed, the majority of the ratepayers from attending ? The same remark will apply to the time at which the prizes are distributed. I would suggest that for the future the election of Com-mittee-men should take place in the evening, when all who are disposed to do so can be present. Such an alteration, would, lam sure, be acceptable to both town* a tad country, and would go far towards remedying the evil of which you complain. ' - / I am, &c, A Parent.
