To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail.
Sie— Having for a long time been a resident on the West Coast, and still having an interest in that locality, I have come to the conclusion that I have a right to a few remarks, as my old class-fellow, A. Forbes, correspondent of the Daily News, would say in writing from France. With regard to the Councillors' travelling expenses, I consider £150 quantum sufficit, as, unfortunately, the men whom we have put forward, or rather who have put< themselves forward, are men of extraordinary means. In a community such as I have had to join of late you will find many singular characters, some who-tfvould be frightened at Pepper's ghost, aud others who would be scared if they only heard the name of a fellow coach driver. lam glad to hear that the sum of £500 has been negatived, and another thing lam sorry for is that the Addison's track has been constructed, or is in the course of construction, seeing that only one dray, and a coach ottener empty than full, constitute the great traffic. I am, &c, An Old Resident on the West Coast. Nelson, May 19th, 1871.
