IS IT "CHURCH" OR "CONVERSAZIONE."
To The Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — Some twenty years ago, on Sunday, during the preaching of the University Sermon in St, Mary's Church, Cambridge, might be seen in various parts of the gallery officers with white wands, and one with writing materials to register the name of any student behaving indecorously. In Christ Church, Nelson, we have the white wands, but they sadly want using, and we haVe those whose indecorous carrying ou is a standing disgrace to their position in Society. Would the appointment of a Church officer,, quietly to register the names of those elder children with a view to communication with their parents or guardians, have the effect of checking conduct, which is at once an annoyance to the well-disposed, and an insult to the Being they profess to worship. I am, &c, Churchman.
