ERRORS OF THE PRESS.

I wrote a poem to my Jane, Which to the papers went ; 'Tis printed, but I had no proof, And thus it, forth is sent. A plague upon that editor, To get me in this mess ; A laughing-stock to make me, through These errors of the press ! " My poor cot is a grot of green, Come share, sweet maid," what's here ? "My poor cot" they have rendered "pork hot," And " grot " is " pot ! "—Oh dear ! Sublime turned to ridiculous U«~.* . " — "p " for "/" That printer should be hung ! Then "pork" for "talk"'— "Jane by thy pork. Thou hast a pickle tongue." From " golden " they have taken " g," (I'm quite out of her hooks !) And 'thus it reads, " Dear Jane, all have Long remarked thy olden looks ! " From " rose " they take " r " and put " n," CMy imag'ry o'erthrown!) " Thy peerless beauty seemeth like A nose that is just" blown ! " "In proper lines, if I'd the power, I'd have thee" — this is wrong, In " sung " is "h " instead of " _." " Pd have thee, dear Jane, hxing ! " In " hope " and " altar," sad mistakes, " My fond heart would not falter To place around thte all my rope And lead thee to the halter ! "
