LAST NIGHT'S COUNCIL.

In reply to a question, from Mr. Rutherford enquiring in what proportion the £4,800 granted by the General Government for distribution amongst thcoutly.mg district's was' paid, the Provincial Skcßktaby replied, that £1200 had been apportioned to the Pangatotara Road Board to construe' a track from Flora's Creek .to the Karamea Bend, £3000 to the T^pp^r Motueka Road Bou'd. of which £2000 is k to be expended in improving the horse track from.^ the Hope towards the Lyell, and £1000 for improving the Wangapeka ioad ; and the remaining £600 to be expended on opening up a road between Xclson and Marlborough via the Rai Valley. The Provincial Solicitor moved the second reading of the "Dog Bill," which was agreed to after a lengthy debate, The Standing Orders were then, after a division, suspended for the purpose of allowing the Council to go into Committee upon the Bill. In Committee various objections were offered, amongst others, that all useful aud necessary dogs <hould bo free from the rate, while those which were kept for show should be taxed. A-fter some discussion the Bill passed through Committee in its original state. The Council then adjourned until this evening.
