MINING INTELLIGENCE.

o mr. h. j. l. augarde's weekly report. Culliford Gold-mining- Company, £10 Shares, £3 10s. paid. Shares completely inactive, no news of importance. Crushing is being continued with energy, and great activity is evinced, but we have no washing up yet, aud until this has taken place and the results known, we cannot expect any change in the share market. Perseverance Goldmining Company, £5 Shares, £2 10s. paid. Beyond the call being well responded to, and the advance of the enlarged works, there is' nothing new iu this company. Lucky Hit Shares, £10 paid. Masonic Shares, £12 10s. paid. Mount Ophir Shares, £9 paid. Commercial Shares, £21 15s. paid. Pioneer Shares, £8 paid, completely inactive. Collingwood Coal Company Shares, £125 paid. Mr. Marshall has gone to Auckland for experienced coal miners. This is evidently a move in the right direction, and what with experienced hands, the improving quality of the coal, and the gradually increasing demand, this company must have a good future before it. Sutherland Goldmining Company, £1 Shares, £1 paid. The news from this miDe is favorable, and in about five or six weeks the battery will be at work. No shares on the market for sale. Waimea,-,-South Quartz Crushing Company, £1 Shares, 15s. paid. The meeting came off on the 14th inst., when it. was decided to postpone it until the 24th inst., it is presumed that the capital required will then be raised by a fresh issue of shares. 1 1 Doran's Gold Muting Company, £j> Shares, £2 10s. paid. Nothing of importance to record beyond another call of 10s. in May next. Our mining information has nothing new that is interesting this week. The results of the first crushing by the Culliford Company not yet being known through there being no washing up, has thrown a damper on the share market, still the public are waiting patiently for the results of the testing of this mine, which in conjunction with Dorao's and other reefs in the Waugapeka district, is so anxiously looked to as the means by which a; chaiuge for the better is to be effected! in 'the affairs of the: province. The Sutherland reef will be proved shortly, and the Per-'

severance company are pushing on their works, so that ere long we shall be able to see the only oue of our mines which has hitherto produced any amount of gold, at work ouce more. Should there be any truth in the statistics given with regard to the saccharite of mercury, as applicable to re-working the tailings, of abandoned diggings, here is ample scope for an entirely new industry, which would be the means of providing ample employ- j ment for those at present out of employ. It is to be hoped that this discovery will be tested iu the Nelson province shortly, either by the Government or by private enterprise.
