The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, APRIL 17, 1871.

Wesleyan Sunday School, Richmond. — The anniversary of this school will be celebrated to-morrow evening by a public tea meeting, after which addresses will be delivered by several ministers and other friends. Hurdle Race. — A private match took place on the racecourse on Saturday afternoon between Mr. Watt's Wildboy ridden by Mr. Richardson, and Mr. George Sinclair's Drummer who was entrusted to the care of Mr. G-. Cooke. The distance was once round the course over six flights of hurdles. At the start Wildboy took a slight lead which he retained until coming to the third hurdle where he baulked, and before his rider could get him over, Drummer had gone well to the front, but not being allowed to put on full steam he was overtaken by the chesuut before reaching the fourth hurdle which was prettily taken by the two simultaneously. At the fifth, Wildhoy baulked agaiD, and left his opponent to win as he pleased, and at the sixth he refused altogether, and made a jump at the side rail, falling in the attempt with his rider who, fortunately, escaped uuhurt.
