MAILS CLOSE. The next Home Mail via Suez and Brindisi (only letters specially adressed) and for India, China. Cape of Good Hope, &c, will be despatched by s.s. Otneo or Alhambra expected about the 15th inst. Note. — In consequence of the increasing difficulties which attend the transmission through France of overland mails, addressed via Marsailles, the Postmaster- General of London has determined on sending mails so addressed, until further notice, urn Brindisi, Brenner, Prussia, and Belgium. The rates of postage to be charged in New Zealand on correspondence for the United Kingdom, via Marseilles and Brindisi, will, therefore, be as follows : — Rates via Marseilles and Brindisi. Letters. — Not exceeding £ ounce. Is. 3d, ; exceeding | ounce and not exceeding 1 ounce. 2s. 6d. ; exceeding 1 ounce and hot exceeding \\ ounce, 3s. 9d ; and fo on Is. 3d. for each \ ounce or fraction of £ ounce. Newspapers under 4 ounces, eacli 4d. Book and Pattern Parcels. — Not exceedin*? 1 ounce, 2d. ; exceeding 1 ounee and not exceeding 2 ounces, 4d. ; exceeding 2 ounces and not excee- ■- ing 4 ounces, 7d. ; exceeding 4 ounces and not exceeding 8 ounces, is. ?d.
