The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 31, 1870.

Stoee Farmers' Club.—The monthly meeting of this Club is postponed until .Monday the 9th of January. Clifwn Flower Show.—lt will be seen by advertisement that the Lady Barkiy is to sail for Motupipi and Collingwrqod on Tuesaay nexi;, leaving Nelson at

4 p.m. arid returniug early on Friday. For the convenience of those who wish to attend the flower show, the steamer will go up the Motupipi River thus avoiding the necessity for boats. The Kennedy is also advertised to make a trip to the same locality on Wednesday evening, returning on Friday. Widening the Port Road. — A much needed work has just been completed in a most satisfactory manner at the Port, where the width of the road between Livick's aud the old Government wharf, a distance of 270 feet, has been increased from 18 feet to a chaiD. The sea wall is built of Adele Island stone on a solid rock foundation, and the whole work is highly creditable to the Surveyor of the Board of Works and to the contractors. The entire cost was £295. New Year's Day. — Apparently there will be no difficulty in spending a pleasant holiday on Monday next, on which day the birth of the new year will be celebrated. First aud foremost there are the .Caledonian Games, which are exciting an unusual amount of interest this year, and will of course, prove the chief attraction, but there may be some who' prefer an excursion at sea; if so, they will have every opportunity of gratifying their tastes, as two trips are advertised, one by the Lyttelton to Motueka, and the other by the Kennedy to Astrolabe and Adele Islaud, both, it is unnecessary to say, at exceedingly low fares. At Richmond the Wesleyan anniversary is to be celebrated by a tea party, and there will also be cricket matches between Stoke and Waimea East, played duriug the day.
