Friday, November 16. Present ; all the members except Mr. Black. The report of the Public Works Committee was read, and the following suggestions adopted : — That no further work be proceeded with for the present on Kawai--Btree t; that plans and specifications for improving the road, aud forming a culvert at the junction of the Washington Valley road and Vincent-street be prepared ; also for a culvert at the junction of Russell-street with the Haven-road. The subject of the Waimea-street drain was then discussed, and tbe special rate fixed at three-eighths of a penny. The general rate for the town was fixed at three farthings in the pound. The assessment roll was then produced, which showed the following comparative statement for the present and preceding years : — 1869-70. 1870-71. Block A £273,827 271,179 B 59,362 62,971 „ C 103,817 97,226 „ D 46,535 4 6,818 „ E 15,446 15,676 „ F 31,973 32,203 „ G 73,808 75,623 £604,768 £601,696 Showing a decrease in value of £3,072. The following is the estimated income and expeuditure of the Board to the close of the current financial year : — ■ INCOME. Salaries £187 12 1 Interest on debentures - - - 100 0 Wages 520 0 Horse feed 65 0 Debentures - 250 0 Contingencies - 150 0 Contemplated Works — Waimea-road, Washington Valley, Halifax, Grove, and Russell Streets - 700 0 Completion of contract on the Haven road 100 0 £2072 12 These figures having been approved, some business of minor importance was transacted, and the Board adjourned until Friday, 30th inst.
