MINING INTELLIGENCE.
O
BIR. H. J. L. AUGARDE'S WEEKLY REPORT,
Culliford Shares, £1 17s. 6d. paid. A few inquiries, but no business. The four-stamper battery has at last arrived, and it will be soon on the ground. News has been received from Mr. Gill, the working manager, to the effect that the tunnel, put in at 1 10 feet below the surface, has struck the reef, in which gold is visible. A call of 12s. 6d. on these shares has been made for the 31st instant.
Perseverance Shares, £2 paid. A few shares have changed hands at par, but beyond this there is nothing new. The Lady Barkly brings no news of importance from the raine. Shareholders may look for another fair return of gold from tho next crushing, as the mine is looking well. Some paid-up shares being in the market causes prices to range loav, and shares to hang rather heavy on hand.
Pioneer Shares, £7 paid. Inactive. The contract taken by Mr. Bfay is completed, and the mine is now tested to a depth of 60 feet 4 inches. The previous good indications are confirmed. The next meeting of Directors, which, it is presumed, will be called directly, will decide the future action.
Lucky Hit Shares, £10 paid. Dormant. Waiting action of Directors.
Masonic Shares, £11 10s. paid. Shares heavy. The Decimal Company having _ arranged for a machine site on the Masonic ground, will enable this Companyto work its own stuff to advantage.
Commercial Shares, £19 lOd. paid. Business in these shares inactive. A call was made at the last meeting of £1 10s. It is the intention of the Directors to get out 5 tons of stuff" from the drive about to be put in, and 5 toos from a small shaft: to be sunk. These 10 tons will be sufficient, it is concluded, to thoroughly test the mine. It is time that something should be done, as £19 10s. per share is a large sum to be paid up. The Directors cannot complain of want of confidence among shareholders.
Collingwood Coal Company, £120. This mine is progressing favorably. A meeting is called at Landon's Hotel, Collingwood, on Wednesday, Oet*:l9, for the purpose of extending the Company.
Mount Ophir Shares, £9 paid. Inactive. The result of the crushing of 10 tons of stuff is anxiously looked for, ia order to decide future operations.
Waimea South Quartz Crushing Company contemplate getting two machines, one of them being an atmospheric battery, to aid in testing our Wangapeka district. With these appliances we may ere long depend on seeing our mineral resources fully opened up.
The meeting at Collingwood for the purpose of extending the Coal Company is a move ia the right direction, as small shares will be found more workable, the public can then come in, and aid in bringing to light the undoubted wealth of this mine.
