Dun Mountain Bus. — A petition is being numerously signed to the manager of the Dun Mountain Railway, requesting him to allow the bus to run between the town and the port on Sundays, between the hours of nine and eleven in the morning, and from one to six in the afternoon.
Christy Minstrels. — This Company gave one of their highly attractive performances on Saturday evening, much to the delight of their audience. It will be seen by advertisement that their final entertainment will take place this evening, as they are engaged lo perform at Motueka to-morrow.
Mr. Robert Heller. — This celebrated magician and musician, who has been attracting such crowded audiences in Dunedin and Christchurch, will arrive in Nelson by the' Gothenburg. Mr. Smythe, the manager of " Heller's Wonders," arrived this morning by the Murray from the West Coast, and Mr. Heller will make his first appearance ia Nelson at the latter end of the week*
Earthquake. — A smart shock of some seconds duration was felt at about 16 minutes past two this afternoon, lhe direction of the vibration being apparently North and South. We learn that ifc was felt very severely at White's Bay, Blenheim, Christchurch and Wellington, and that at the latter place it lasted 1 minute 22 seconds. We may add that we were in receipt of this information in less than five minutes after the shock was felt in Nelson.
Winter Evening Entertainments. — The last but one of this series of entertainments will take place at the Assembly Eoom, this eveniug, on which occasion a number of dissolving views wili be exhibited, and the various subjects explained by Captain Rough, who has recently visited the scenes to be depicted. The views comprise among others, Cairo, the Mosque of Omar, the Fords of Jordan, Mont Blanc, St. Bernard, and two or three sketches of English scenery. The remainder of the entertainment will consist of vocal and instrumental music and a reading by the Bey. G, H. Johnstone of Byron's " Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte," which at the present time will prove peculiarly appropriate.
Farmers' Club. — A meeting was held in the Stoke schoolroom, on Saturday evening last, to consider the desirability of forming a " Farmers' Club ;" Mr. R. Ching in the chair. After some discussion it was resolved : — That a Farmers' Club be established for Stoke. That a committee of seven persons be appointed to manage the club, such committee to remain iv office one year. That each member pay a subscription of 6d. per month. That the night of meeting be the first. Monday in each month. Seventeen persons gave in their names and paid their subscription as members.
Gas Company. — We would remind our readers that a meeting of those interested in forming a gas company for Nelson is to be held at the Masonic Hoted at 8 o' clock this evening. Anxious as we are to see arrangements made for supplying the town with gas, we are still more desirous of seeing the company formed among the householders who are to consume it, as we should be sorry to find that the affair had fallen into the hands of those whose sole interest would be in extracting as much money as possible from the pockets of the consumers without regard to the benefit to be conferred upon the town generally. For this reason we would urge upon all those who are in a position to avail themselves of the opportunity the desirability of becoming shareholders, in order that they may have a voice in determining the scale of charges. Experience has proved that handsome returns way be looked for from such an investment, and we certainly should wish to see the profits arising from it retained within our midst aud distributed among the townspeople generally.
