The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1870.

We are requested by Messrs. T. Newton & Co. to call the attention of the trade to their unreserved sale on Monday next, at 2 o'clock sharp. Steamer Luna. — The Government steamer Luna arrived in harbor this morning, haviug been sent over to take on board the despatches for the Governor, and proceed with tbem at once to Wellington, as owing to the disturbed state of affairs in Europe, it might be necessary to take fresh action before the Parliament was prorogued. The Luna had instructions to take on board our Nelson football players, some of whom embarked this morning, when the steamer at once proceeded to sea to meet the Tararua, and take the Wellington mails on board. Artizans' Society. — A most able and comprehensive lecture was delivered at the Temperance Hall, last night, for the benefit of the Artizans' Society librai-y fund by the Rev. F. C. Simmous, the subject beiDg "Race and Language." So much information with regard to the two sciences, technically termed philosophy and ethnology, was condensed into the short hour for which the lecturer spoke, that ifc is impossible to give, in our limited space, any idea of the various subjects touched upon or the able manner in which they were handled. The cbair was taken by Dr. Irvine, and at the conclusion of the lecture a vote of thanks to Mr. Simmons was proposed by Mr. Stephenson, and carried with loudapplause.
