NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.
o Friday, September 9. Present : All the members. The tender of Sigley for lighting and cleaning 25 lamps i'or £111 per annum was accepted. The Finance Committee reported that they had examined the accounts for the past month and found them correct. They also stated ihat the warrant for assessment would be ready for signing next Board night. The Public Works Committee reported that they could not recommend the undertaking of the work applied for by Mr. T. Harley in Weka and Tasman Streets. On the motion of Mr. Webb, seconded by Mr. Black, it was resolved " That the Secretary be instructed to complain to his Honor the Superintendent of the negligence of the police in enforcing the provisions of the Constabulary Ordinance as regards the writing obscene words in public places about the city, also the stoppage of footpaths by goods placed thereon." The Surveyor was instructed to advertise for tenders for building a stone culvert in Tipahi-street, and also for supplying extra horses and carts when required by the Board. A letter was read from Mr, Fell stating j that Joseph Edwards had, through the negligence of the Board in leaving unfenced part of the Haven-road near Saltwater Bridge, fallen over the embankment and received serious injuries, and threatening that unless the Board were prepared to make substantial recompense legal proceedings would at once be taken. Resolved, That the Surveyor be requested to write io Mr. Fell informing him that the Board could not entertain the claim made by his client. Some small accounts were then passed, | and the Board adjourned until Friday, the 26th instant.
